Royal Pirates, 15&, and GOT7?!

Late post! I don't usually blog on Sundays. Ramblings are usually up Friday night or Saturday, but I wasn't able to post anything since it was family time. Anyways, this week's Ramble is about Royal Pirates, GOT7, and 15&!

If you've had the chance to read my first Reflection post, you'll probably recognize the name. The Royal Pirates are a Korean-American, three member band originally from the United States. Leader Moonchul and drummer Soohyun were born in Korea, while bassist James was born and raised in Los Angeles, California.

I recall seeing an article about them on allkpop.com years ago when they were preparing for debut. Although I was quite taken by their band name, I never looked into them after that. Later on, I came across their "Drawing the Line" music video when I was watching a Kpop Music Monday-- a weekly YouTube video series made by the EatYourKimchi studios where Canadian couple Simon and Martina Stawski break down one K-Pop video voted in by the audience. They showed a short clip of "Drawing the Line", and I really liked the song. I eventually searched them up, and viola! The rest is history.

The music video was different and quite charming. (That slap looked painful, though! Ouch!) "Drawing the Line" talks about a couple where the girl keeps drawing the line in their relationship instead of letting things develop and grow.

They're also very aware of their international fans, because they have released a couple of their lead songs in English, as well! And it isn't awkward or cringe-worthy, trust me. I highly recommend their most recent lead songs "Love Toxic" and "Betting Everything" off of their Love Toxic album.

They have a refreshing sound! I'm even surprised with myself that I've become a Royal Pirates fan. "Drawing the Line" is and always will be a favorite of mine. I've replayed it for days on end, and I STILL haven't gotten tired of it!

You have no idea how much I support the lovely ladies of 15&!!! The power vocal duo debuted in 2012, when they were just 15 years old! The "&" part in their group name represents what they will accomplish next in the future. While there's no full music video for their song "Can't Hide It", they've uploaded a short video compilation to make up for it. Member Jimin can be seen picking off flower petals, counting off the familiar phrase used when a girl does something like this. Yerin can be seen talking to, presumably, a boy friend on the phone while Jimin teases her in the background.

"Yugyeom (the boy's name), have you eaten?" Yerin asks. (In Korean culture, it's common and perfectly normal to casually ask someone if they've eaten. It sort of implies that you care about the person.)

"Can't Hide It" is by far my favorite song from 15&! The girls sing about how they can't hide their feelings for the person they like. Anyone can relate to the song, and I like how it perfectly embodies the joy and un-explainable bliss of having a crush. Don't deny it! I'm sure there were times where YOU couldn't hide it, either! If you want to hear the whole song, I've attached a video that also provides English translations to go along with it.

GOT7 is a seven member boy group that debuted back in January of 2014. They are also under the same music label as 15&! Fun fact: The boy Yerin was talking to on the phone is in this group! Yugyeom is the youngest member of GOT7 and is supposedly close friends with Yerin.

"Stop Stop it" is their flagship song off of their first full-length studio album "Identify".

After hearing their previous song "A", I didn't think I'd like any more of their songs after that. Don't get me wrong, "A" was great, but I wasn't drawn in enough to follow GOT7's footsteps.

Boy was I in for a surprise.

"Stop Stop it" is about a boy being driven crazy by his feelings for a girl that he likes, and he tells her to "stop it". (Stop what, you ask? I'm guessing just being herself, but that's not really fair to the girl!) The techno sounds in the chorus gradually grew on me, and I couldn't resist bobbing my head along to the beat.

While the first and middle part of the music video are self-explanatory (thank you JYP Entertainment for the English subtitles), the ending might not be for some people.

My conclusion is that, after he returns from an alternate, futuristic universe, JB has been given another chance to repeat the first moment that was shown in the video (where he "threatens" he'll jump off the building). He's most likely rethinking his options... "Threatening" your crush that you'll jump off a building unless he/she agrees to go out with you? Not exactly the most well thought out plan, and not exactly in your favor, either...
